What was your very first job?

I wanted to become a veterinarian when I was younger, so I worked at a veterinarian’s office as soon as I turned 15.

What’s your favorite thing to do when not working?

I love hiking and being outdoors. There is nothing better than breathing in fresh mountain air and surrounded by nature away from the noise.

When did you know you were going to start a digital marketing company?
Over the years, I had so many friends and heard so many bad stories of business owners getting taken advantage of by marketing companies. Either the service was poorly completed or not completed at all. Being a small business owner is hard enough, much less when you’re worrying if your marketing company has your best interest in mind.

I wanted to help. Over the last seven years, I had learned so much that I was convinced I could go on my own and help these business owners grow the way they always dreamed of doing. So I found the perfect partner in Carly, and we started Mountain Air Marketing. I focus on overall branding and web design, while she focuses on SEO and social media. I felt we would be the perfect team for these businesses and really get them to where they always wanted to be. And we have. It’s been so exciting!

Who inspires you the most in your career?
Small business owners who push so hard when they’re down and give everything they have to their company. They inspire me professionally. I believe I have the opportunity to learn from each of our clients, and I am open to their feedback. We can all learn from each other.

What is one encouraging thing you want to tell other small businesses?
Being a small business owner is tough. Whether you are selling products or a service, you will always experience incredible ups and devastating lows. You will be on Cloud Nine one day, and the next you will be questioning why you decided to be an entrepreneur. My advice is to trust yourself. Educate yourself and keep pushing forward. Become obsessed with your business. When you are not sleeping, you should be thinking about how to make your business better. When you are not in conversation with someone, you should be thinking about how to make your business better. When you have a moment of time to relax, you should be thinking about how to make your business better. Putting in the time now will only give you more time in the future to focus on something else.

What do you think small businesses should know about digital marketing?
Digital marketing is constantly changing. Having the expectation that you have the time to run your company or have an employee who has multiple job roles also manage your digital presence correctly is a bit overzealous. One of the most important things I have learned as a small business owner is to designate roles and responsibilities to those that excel in that area. I can’t do everything perfect on my own. I need a team of professionals who excel in their field in order to make my company successful, and so do you.
