Why You Need a Real Social Media Strategy

D

id you know that 93% of businesses are active on Facebook? That’s a lot. How are you going to show your Facebook content to quality followers when millions of other businesses are doing the same?

Strategy.

Social media is an excellent way to grow your business in both the online world and in real life. The more people see your name, products, and faces of the business, the more awareness they have of you. Social media lets you post anything and everything, but it is crucial you have a real social media strategy to get the most out of your efforts.

A real social media strategy can deliver positive brand awareness, strong brand recall in the minds of consumers, reach more people in your area or across the globe, and foster an active online community around your brand.

The four major elements of a social media strategy we want to share with you are:

  • Business Goal.
  • Find the Right People.
  • Consistent Messaging.
  • Engagement.

Utilizing a social media strategy on a regular basis creates a well rounded presence for your business, and a constant, familiar experience for your followers. These four elements of a social media strategy will ensure both seamless efforts and results with every post you make.

Aim with your Business Goals in mind.

First, you will want to determine a business goal. What exactly do you expect from posting to social media as a business?

Business goals for your social media strategy could be to spread the word about your new business, educate followers about your product or service, or generate quality leads. If you aren’t sure about where to start in your social media strategy, begin with a goal to build brand awareness with your online community. Tell your company’s story, how it was founded, and share behind-the-scenes content.

Your business goal for the social media strategy should play a part in or align with an existing goal you have set for your business.

Finding the Right People in the Right Place, at the Right Time.

Find the right people in the right place at the right time. This is the essence of marketing. And thanks to the data of the online world, you can find all the right steps for your employing social media strategy.

Facebook offers plenty of free tools for you to manage and review the analytics of your Business Page. Use tools like best times to post, demographics, and more with Facebook to determine what times and days to post to best reach your followers and demographics to talk in the tone most appropriate and attractive to your target audience.

Consistency is key.

You don’t want to confuse or overwhelm your audience with random memes, conflicting tones of voice, or demanding calls to action. Instead, think of your brand as a person, then imagine how that person talks during a conversation. This trick is how you can develop a brand voice and use it in your social media content.

Being consistent in your messaging will keep strong content flowing and clear direction for your audience to follow. To make your content even more clear to readers, brainstorm key phrases that are relevant to your brand. Use these keywords and phrases when writing your social media content, such as when you describe your company or the products or services you offer. This trick #2 for content writing will help ensure your audience knows exactly how you can help them.

As you continue creating social media content for your business using your brand voice, you will gradually attract the right people (see above). Just like various personality types exist, various brands do also. People will buy from brands that resonate with their ideas, emotions, and beliefs. The more you use your brand voice, the more you will develop a quality audience. If a consumer is not familiar with what you offer, it is unlikely they will buy from you. So develop your brand voice, talk with it on social media, and start the conversation to connect with your followers.

Don’t shout nor be shy.

The easiest way to get people to do something is by telling them to do it. On social media, this is called a Call To Action. This short phrase, which should be developed using your brand voice, directs social media users to the action you want them to take: Book Now, Buy Now, Sign Up Now, Call Now, etc. If your business goal in your social media strategy is to generate leads and make sales, your call to action must be persuasive.

Other ways to engage your audience on social media is to post relevant content they feel encouraged to like, share, and comment on. The successful end of the spectrum of this element of a social media strategy is to go viral, and the other end is when you receive zeroes across the board. You will want to find a sweet spot on this spectrum as it is unlikely that every post you make will go viral, but that your posts are generating engagement from followers.

Most marketers focused on organic engagements are happy when they see users who are alike in that they follow and love your brand are actively having a conversation. For example, when you see comments popping up on a Facebook post asking your audience what they like most about your product, chime into the conversation every once in a while to show your face, but not to be overwhelming or completely absent.
